"Gone are the days of Jane Fonda and leotards...
...Women today know they can take on bigger fitness challenges and reap the rewards of a truly tough workout."
On Monday, January 17th (oh look at that! January 17th would be my 2 year, 1 month anniversary with my boyfriend and future husband, he's on a mission right now)I will be starting P90X with a group of friends I rounded up. Ashley, Meagan, and Natasha (maybe?). We would have started it sooner, but I seem to have come down with the flu, and if we wait to start on Monday we can have our rest days on Sundays. I am going to try and incorporate the P90X Nutrition Plan in with my Jillian Michaels Hormone Balancing plan as well. My friends and I are going to do the "Lean" version of P90X, which has more cardio than weight lifting and burns more fat while toning lean muscle.
Tips for P90X
1. Don't use adjustable dumbbells! Always use resistance bands or standard dumbbells
2. It doesn’t matter what you weigh. Seriously, concentrate on how you look and feel.
3. Keep pressing play!
4. Take this program one day at a time. Making yourself aware of everything yet to come and how long you have left will only make it more tempting to throw in the towel. Don't think about what the next few days may bring. You could quit tomorrow. For today, just do the best you can.
5. NO SKIPPING WORKOUTS! OR MEALS!
6. It's recommended that you get real friendly with some ibuprofen liquid gels and Icy-Hot patches in these first few days. You're going to be sore.
7. Work through the soreness!
8. Drink a TON of water!
There are 3 phases to the P90X nutrition plan. Phase 1 -- Fat Shredder, Phase 2 -- Energy Booster, Phase 3 -- Endurance Maximizer. I will be mixing up these Phases with the Workout weeks and with my Jillian Michaels plan. I am going to try and limit any process foods; this includes any food that has been canned, frozen, dehydrated, or had chemicals added in to make it last longer. Frozen/prechopped fruits/veggies are good. I won't be eating anything with shortening or partially hydrogenated oil. I am also going to be eating mostly organic options. Nothing with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it will be eaten. No soda, nothing with MSG in it, etc.
I'll keep you posted on my progress after week 1 of P90X (:
Wish me luck.

Master Your Metabolism -- Jillian Michaels
I got this book by Jillian Michaels called "Master Your Metabolism" in it she describes how she use to be (did you know she use to be fat?!) In it she says something that reminds me of... Well... Me. So I thought I'd share:
"By seventeen, ... There was nothing that I didn't read or know about. I had every trade magazine from 'Muscle & Fitness' to 'Shape.' I read every diet book, tried every fitness craze. I saw what worked and what didn't... I was obsessed with finding the right ways to burn fat, ... for me. For example, for a while, I followed the prevailing belief that the most effective way to burn fat was to work out on an empty stomach... and came to find out that it was exactly the wrong thing to do because your body with metabolize its own muscle tissue! Scratch that, move on to the next thing. I did the same thing with my diet. I experimented with Atkins, Blood Type, PH, Paleolithic, South Beach Diet, Vegetarianism, food combining--even the dreaded Master Cleanse (yes, that's the lemonade diet thing)--Why? Because I wanted to be skinny! For a full decade, I treated my body like I was a lab rat."
Sound familiar, anyone? Lol. Anyway. Did you know a lot of weight gain and work out Plateaus come from hormone imbalances? I'm so excited to have this book right now because it's going to show me how to get my hormones back in balance, which will ultimately help me get healthy (: I'll keep you all updated.

I want to do this right.
So I wanted to try south beach, and started it for a day or two... But I ran out of veggies so fast! I felt like I bought quite a bit, but they were gone in like 2 days, and I had just spent about $35 on those. I can't spend $35 on veggies every two days because I just don't have the funds for it! I think part of the problem with the South Beach Diet is that it doesn't let you eat carbs (including fruit), at least not for the first two weeks, and of course that does make you loose weight, but I have a bad addiction to carbs, and I love fruit. So! With that said I quit the South Beach Diet. I kind of decided that dieting is stupid all together. You should just make a plan from... Say... mypyramid.gov, and then limit sugars, salts, oils, simple carbs, and discretionary calories. Then exercise 60 minutes a day, AT LEAST 5 days a week. I also don't need to worry about loosing a LOT of weight FAST. Normally, loosing weight fast is actually bad for your body and most of the time the faster you loose it, the faster you gain it back. I need to just put equal to more energy out by exercising then I put in by eating.
So, here's my mypyramid guidelines:
-- I need 6oz of grain a day, making at least 3oz or more of those grains whole grain.
-- I need 2.5 cups of veggies a day and need to vary them, aiming for this much every week:
Dark Green Vegetables = 3 cups weekly
Orange Vegetables = 2 cups weekly
Dry Beans & Peas = 3 cups weekly
Starchy Vegetables = 3 cups weekly
Other Vegetables = 6 1/2 cups weekly
-- I need 2 cups of fruit a day
-- I need 3 cups of milk a day
-- I need 5.5oz of Meats/beans (except for red meat. I don't eat red meat when I'm working out regularly because it tends to make me bulk up, and I want to be lean, not muscle-bulky)
-- I need to aim for 6 tsp of oil a day
-- I need to limit my extra fats/sugars to 265 calories. Eventually I want to completely cut out sugar unless it's natural, like from fruit.
-- I need to do at least 30 minutes of work outs a day and try to work my way up to 60 min work outs.
-- I need to continually remind myself of portion control, and also space out my meals so it's breakfast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner. That way my metabolism keeps roaring. Lol
I realized my BIGGEST problem is eating junk. I mean, I have a MAJOR sweet-tooth, and I need to stop. What makes it worse is that I have Hypoglycemia, so if I don't stop I'm eventually going to end up with Diabetes because it runs in my family. Like, I age normal today and tracked my progress and what I ate and it was ridiculous! I'm not even going to tell you because I was embarrassed. I didn't even realize that I ate like I did. Anyway. I plan on trying to stay away from sweets or if I can't avoid it, go by some sugar-free candy just to satisfy the sweet tooth. Because all sugar sweet are is taste. Your body doesn't like it, so why put it there? Anyway. I'm going to do Zumba once a week, jog every couple of days and do circuit training. Maybe something like P90X or ... Something. Lol.
I'll probably also be posting recipes as I make stuff I like (:
I'll keep you all posted.
PS -- I think I might rename this blog "Diets Suck" lol
